Ionian Princess is a 47m luxury motor yacht, with unique character due to her interior “heavy” design and decoration. During one day assignment, we had to make aerial photography with drone as well as all exteriors and some interior shots. We started early in the morning and managed to finish aerial shots just few minutes before the wind picked up suddenly and became improper for flying a drone. Then I had to make a tight time schedule in order to complete all deck and interior shots, trying to shoot all areas of the yacht when natural light was right. Concerning interior shots, I had to take photographs of master cabin and the two lounges, located in different decks. While the yacht was decorated with very dark and extra shiny wood, special care should be taken in reflections in the wood from elements found both inside and outside the boat. Interior yacht photography is usually very tricky due to these reflections. The most important exterior area was the sun deck, equipped with a jacuzzi, dining table and preparation workbench. Also the stern was quite spacious to carry many of the boat “toys” and still have empty room. After sunset shots on the top deck, the boat started sailing back to the harbor and at that time I had the chance to take some atmospheric pictures of the side decks, stern and sun deck. At about half an hour after sunset there is a sweet light balance between ambient and artificial interior light, which makes possible to capture at the same time both interior, exterior, sea and sky.
